How a field is determined closed?

Field closures are determined by CVUSC facility and venue partners and/or the municipalities responsible for field maintenance. CVUSC will comply with all field closures issued by these authorities. The CVUSC 'Manager of Soccer-Logistics' will communicate closures as soon as possible to schedule clubs, teams' Managers/ Divisional Managers, referees, and staff.

Our CVUSC Business Operations Manager will share the closures, as advised by the Manager of Soccer-Logistics, via our social media venues, and on our website.

Why would a field become closed?

Fields may be closed for, but are not limited to, the following reasons:

  • Standing water
  • Snow or frost
  • Unsafe surface conditions
  • Excessive wear and tear
  • Scheduled maintenance or repairs
What happens when a field is closed?

Once a field is officially closed:

  • No games, practices, or training sessions may take place.
  • Fields will remain closed until facility staff officially reopen them.
  • If a field is closed on a Friday, it will remain closed for the entire weekend, regardless of improved weather conditions.

Field closures are determined by CVUSC facility and venue partners and/or the municipalities responsible for field maintenance. CVUSC will comply with all field closures issued by these authorities. The CVUSC 'Manager of Soccer-Logistics' will communicate closures as soon as possible to schedule clubs, teams' Managers/ Divisional, referees, staff.

Our CVUSC Business Operations Manager will share the closures, as advised by the Manager of Soccer-Logistics, via our social media venues, and on our website.

Can the CVUSC alone cancel practices or games?

On some occasions, the CVUSC can determine a field closure and corresponding cancelations, outside of the decision of our community venue partners. While this does not routinely happen, it can occur due to weather or some sort of emergency.

The decision to cancel a practice lies with:

  • Team Staff : Technical Directors, Manager of Soccer-Logistics, in consultation with Team Coaches, Team Managers

Team staff are expected to make safety-conscious decisions based on field conditions.

What to do if the weather turns during a practice or game?

If a field is officially open but weather deteriorates:

For Practices:
Teams are responsible for assessing field conditions before/during use. Unsafe conditions (e.g., snow, ice, pooling water) must be treated as unplayable.

If a thunder/lighting storm turns up in the area, practices must be cancelled.

For Games:
Referees retain the authority to cancel or abandon games on-site if field conditions are deemed unsafe for play, regardless of official field status.

The Referee is responsible for assessing field conditions before/during use or if the weather turns and is unsafe to play.

If you have any questions or concerns about a field please contact our Manager of Soccer-Logistics at :   logisticsmanager@cvusc.org

Field Line Painting

Line painting and field maintenance is an important role in any club!

Diligent lining keeps our fields looking sharp, professional, and ready for action. Precision ensures lines are clearly marked for safe for play.

The CVUSC  seeks volunteers and/or subcontractors to line our fields. These roles take place throughout the soccer season (August through June).

Our goal is to have 2-3 committed line painters annually.

The CVUSV Manager of Soccer-Logistics oversees the work duties, scheduling, and hours assigned for volunteer and/or sub-contracted paint lining and maintenance as a part of an annual budget.

Paint-liners Information:

Frequency: Typically once a week (weather dependent)

Timing: Flexible—mornings, evenings, whenever works for you!

Training: No experience needed—we’ll show you how.

Compensation: Choose to volunteer your time or take this on as a paid subcontracted role.

Subcontracted (paid) Paid Paint Liners:

  • All Sub-Contractors are paid $24 per hour.
  • Sub-Contractors must provide their full name, current address, phone number, and social insurance number to our Business Operations Manager upon starting any work.
  • Those subcontractors who earn more than $500 annually will be issued T4A's from our CVUSC accounting partners.
  • All pay to sub-contractors will be issued via the CVUSC and mailed to the paint liners (unless indicated they would like to pick up a cheque at the clubhouse). Pay is issued twice monthly: the 15th of every month and the last day of every month. Sub-contractors must submit hours 7 days previous to the pay period to be issued funds.
  • The CVUSC Manager of Soccer-Logistics must approve all hours submitted for pantiliners.

Darrin McLeod Legacy Bursary

The Darrin McLeod Legacy Bursary is offered in honour of former Comox Valley United Soccer Club Director of Soccer, Darrin McLeod, who tragically and suddenly passed away in April of 2024.

Darrin was a tremendous presence as a part of the UNITED family, and remains so to today.

Darrin served on the Board of Directors, a coach, and led the CVUSC soccer operations as the Director of Soccer. Darrin's work with the CVUSC was driven by great passion and commitment as he enacted and instituted some of our club's most coveted programming. But importantly, outside of the technical planning and commitment to the club, Darrin demonstrated incredible passion for "community" and was a committed role model, dedicated coach, mentor, and kind friend.

It is with heartfelt appreciation from the CVUSC that we express deep gratitude the McLeod Family, donated $11,000 in November of 2025, to fund Darrin's legacy bursary for eleven years!

The Darrin McLeod Legacy Bursary is for CVUSC players,  and will be awarded to a female/non-binary athlete who consistently demonstrates commitment through reliable attendance and personal accountability.
